Social Bookmarking

I believe that Social bookmarking is a great way for both students and teachers to share websites with each other. It can be frustrating to find a great website and have to email to all of your friends or coworkers. This way, you can do everything in one spot, and not have to jump back and forth. Saving time in the classroom is always a great idea. This can also be a great way to develop lesson plans. Suppose you are doing a lesson on dinosaurs, but you felt like something was missing. You can go to your del-ici-ous account and see if your fellow teachers or even your friends have anything interested tagged about dinosaurs. You can tag your findings as well and help somebody out in the long run. Social Bookmarking is a teacher God-send!

Wikipedia Article Change

After going the ETSU for three years now, the one thing that I wish this school had is a football team. I think that without a football team, we really lack in our school spirit. Yes, we all love and support our other athletic sports teams, but to me, football brings out all the families, not only currently obtained by ETSU, but Alumni as well. So, I decided to look up East Tennessee State University on Wikipedia and see what it said about football. To my surprise, there was hardly anything said, just basic facts really. So I decided to add my opinion into the mix by adding a short paragraph on the recent survey taken in 2008 by the students on the thoughts of revitalizing the ETSU football team. I added... "In 2008, ETSU conducted a student wide survey on bringing football back to the campus, with revitalization complete by the end of the 2010 academic school year. Although the survey showed a declination of student interest in bringing football back to campus, ETSU officials are still brainstorming ideas on how to bring the program back without student frustration or fees."

I added this on Sunday, March 15th and I will check tomorrow to see if Wikipedia allowed the change or not.

Pros and Cons of Educational Blogging

After reviewing some interesting facts on educational blogging, I have realized that more and more people are accepting the idea of using blogs in the classroom. I as well like the idea of using the blogging system in the classroom. We all know that pupil to pupil interaction is critical in the classroom. But why must it stop in the classroom?
The students in a classroom all know each other pretty well, and most of them have grown up together throughout their educational careers. By using blogs, students can interact will people all over the world, which creates a wide range of opinions for the students to seek out. This is not only helpful for students, but teachers as well. This way, a teacher doesn't have to struggle to figure out something alone, he/she can always find the answer through a blog. Because nine times out of ten, there is a teacher somewhere in the world who has had the same problem and found a way to overcome it. By using blogs the entire world can interact with each other. This could be helpful in so many ways for both students and teachers. There are of course cons, such as technological difficulty for children, and common misconceptions some make by reading text. But as you can see, these are things that can be easily overcome. All we really need is a little practice.
