Veteran Teachers learning New Technology

Because the world is becoming more technologically advanced, veteran teachers as well as upcoming teachers need to stay as up to date as possible in their technology knowledge. This means staying at pace with what your students know about technology. Since I will be an upcoming teacher, i will be teaching children that are now called "Digital-natives", meaning that they are well versed in the ways of advanced technology because they have had it around them since they were born. Many schools have seen a major increase in the student usage of cell phones, and digital cameras in the classroom. As teachers, we have to ask ourselves, "Are these devices honestly a bad idea for the classroom, or can we use them for the greater educational good?"
There are many ways to teach new innovative technology to students, but teachers have to be on board in learning how they function and work. The following are examples of technologies that can have a positive impact on education:

email,
search,
texting and instant messaging
blogs
wikis,
the Wikipedia
podcasting
polling devices
networking
digital cameras/video cameras
cellphones

If teachers can jump on board with these new technology features, and embrace their existence, many veteran and upcoming teachers can use new technology to raise the intellectual levels of their classrooms.
